2012 Tournament Wrap-Up and Tests; Future Blog Posts

A big thank you to everyone who made it out for the tournament this past weekend! By our account it was a big success, and we hope you enjoyed the tests and will continue to work on them to become better math team students!

Our tournament next year will be on March 2, 2013, so please mark your calendars for that date. One new change we plan on implementing is that we will have a 6th Grade level (Divisions I & II) for the upcoming tournament. Now that 6th Grade is typically a middle school grade, we feel it should be included in the tournament. For those of you who will be in the 6th grade next year, if you want to come to our tournament, talk to your math team teacher about attending.

We had a couple of changes to the written tests, in particular to Algebra 1 and Geometry, but I have fixed those in order to accept only one answer. The corrected versions, along with ciphering and test keys, are available here: 2012 Tournament Tests and Ciphering (same password as before).

I hope that you have found this blog/website informative, and I hope to use it to address any future concerns. Please feel free to post comments as you see fit. I figure, for example, if people want to know how to do particular problems, I can post responses here, and we can use this site for anything else pertinent to the tournament, even in the "off-season".

We look forward to seeing everyone for our next tournament on Saturday, March 2, 2013!

Tournament Still Going On As Planned

We fielded many e-mails and phone calls today, but we wanted everyone to know that the tournament is still going on as planned tomorrow. The weather has been bad, but it looks like it will have cleared the area by the morning.

If it becomes necessary to delay the start, we will do that, but that decision will not be made until the morning.

Please be careful as you travel to Hoover High School tomorrow, and we will see you in the morning!

Early Registration Closed; One Week Left for Late Registration

If you have not registered yet for our tournament this year, there is still time. Please follow the links in the previous post back in January. Registration is now $8 per student, and we will accept registrations through Wednesday, February 22.

Thanks to all who have registered. We currently are sitting at over 1000 students registered for our tournament! We are still proofing all tests and ciphering and hope to have a quality product for you in just two short weeks!

One Week Left Until Early Registration Deadline

Just a reminder:

The early registration deadline for the Hoover Math Tournament is one week away, February 15. Thanks to all who have registered thus far, and for those yet to register, make sure to get your numbers in by that date for the $6 student fee. Any registrations after that date are $8 per student, with that deadline a week later, February 22.

Tests and ciphering are being finalized as we speak, with several competitions already having been proofed. We hope this year's tournament will be another success. We look forward to seeing you on March 3!

2012 Tournament Invitation and Registration Links

Our tournament registration is now available. E-mails with the invitation letter will be going out tomorrow to sponsors whose e-mail addresses we already have. A postcard directing you to this tournament website will be going out to schools as well. The e-mail will have the passwords for the old tests; the postcard will direct you as to how to receive the passwords.

Here is a copy of the invitation letter (minus the password): 2012 Tournament Invitation

The link for registering your school for our tournament can be found here: 2012 Tournament Registration (no longer active)

********Note: Oops! The registration form didn't say how to send in your payment. Please mail a check (made payable to Hoover High School) to:

Forrest Quattlebaum

Thanks to Emily Smith for pointing out this oversight.

We are putting some last-minute touches on a few things, but the registration for our tournament, which is on March 3 this year, will be available by the end of this week. Registration will be online, which should make for an easier process. All information will be available on this site, so stay tuned for details!

Old Tests, 1996-2011

I know that some of you asked for the answers to be removed from the old site, but I could never get that to work. However, I have now been able to do that by creating .zip files corresponding to the years for the tournament. Each year's .zip file has all five tests and keys plus the ciphering for all five levels.

In order to unzip the files, you will need an extractor such as WinZip or WinRar, which if you do not already have on your computer, you may download from Tucows for free. The files inside the .zip files are .pdf files, so you will also need Adobe Reader, available at Adobe.

Also in order to unzip the files, you will need the password for the files. Because teachers would like to use these old tests as practice in the classroom, the passwords are only available to teachers and will only be sent to e-mail addresses affiliated with schools. Sorry to have to do this, but if you have other suggestions, I'd be willing to entertain them.

Here are the .zip files for all previous tournaments up to this point:

1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011

Welcome!

After debating for some time about where to put all of this math tournament information, I have decided to settle on Blogger. I will be moving all of the tests and other resources over here in the coming weeks, but if you still want to find the old site, point your browser here.
